What is she wearing?

Now, I have no idea what's cool and what's not when it comes to cloths. I still have shirts I wore in high school. Either people or too nice to tell me how lame I look or I was ahead of my time and cloths I had 17 years ago are just now in fashion. Either way, I'll always be a jean and t-shirt kind of guy. But in case you have a teenage daughter I thought this article might be worth a look. So when your 14 year old gets all geeked up because she finds a pair of your jeans from the 70’s, don’t be shocked.

While we were at church flinging frozen turkeys last Sunday night (September 7th) MTV was airing the Video Music Awards. This year marked the 25th anniversary of the VMAs. Of course 25 years ago (I was 10 years old) they actually showed music videos on MTV. I think they squeeze in on or two between A Shot at Love, TRL (which is going off the air) and The Hills (which should go off the air). Anyway, here to read about it. Now, I don’t post these because I do or do not support the MTV or the Video Music Awards. I’m posting it because as parents and leaders of young people it is important to know what kind of images, lessons and trends the media is sending kids. Even if your kid doesn’t watch MTV or the VMAs I assure you they are being influenced by them somehow. I know my 8 year old is. Point is, don’t live in a bubble. Get out there and learn and understand the youth culture. Sit and watch as much of the VMAs as you can (I personally made it through about 12 minutes). Watch it on line or turn on MTV; they replay it about 14 times a day.
